Hallen's supportive work program offers both in-school training and community internships.

Students in the supportive work program learn practical applications of academic subjects, experiencing the world of work and the basics of operating a business. They also have the opportunity to work in one of Hallen's two retail stores. S.T.A.R.S. (Students Training in a Retail Store) on Main, Our retail store fronting New Rochelle's Main Street, is the hallmark of the supportive work program. S.T.A.R.S. is staffed by students selling engraved gift items to the public. Students learn and practice all aspects of operating and working in a small business as they involve themselves in production, inventory, shipping, and customer service. Students develop skills such as engraving, laminating, customer service and quality control.  The Book Nook is a small student-operated store that also provides our students’ with an  introduction to the business world.

Hallen also offers a Floral Design program where students learn the art of creating professional fresh and silk arrangements.  More advanced students are given the opportunity to fill orders placed by hotels and restaurants.

Finally, those older students who are ready hold internships with neighborhood employers several hours per day, one or two days per week. Hallen is connected to over 20 local business sites that train our students to enter the commercial workplace. Students currently work in a local nursing home, day care center, bicycle shop, restaurants and grocery stores.
